THE Singapore authorities are right to redeploy the Gurkha officers away from the American Club popular with the American expatriate community here, said security experts.
Assistant Professor John Harrison from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies said: "The situation of organised threat in Singapore is very low and (the Government) has done an admirable job in this aspect. By redeploying the Gurkhas according to the assessed threat level, they would be available if threats were to strike later on."
The comments came in the wake of the redeployment of Gurkhas away from the American Club, where they had been stationed for the past eight years.
An e-mail sent to club members said the move was taken because "the security threat level in Singapore is such that redeployment of the Gurkha guards is appropriate".

air france crash update

air france crash update
Search teams scouring the Atlantic Ocean for the Air France jet which came down in a storm yesterday have found debris from an aircraft, including a passenger seat.
The Brazilian Air Force said they had discovered the debris and an oil and kerosene slick 650km (400 miles) northeast of the Fernando do Noronha archipelago, in the area where the jet is thought to have crashed.
It could not immediately be confirmed that the debris was from Air France flight AF 447, which had 228 passengers and crew aboard, said Jorge Amaral, an air force spokesman. He added that officials needed "a piece that might have a serial number, some sort of identification" to be sure that it came from the missing airliner.
If the debris is confirmed as that of the Air France Airbus A33-200, air crash investigators will be significantly more confident as to the prospects of recovering the aircraft's black box flight recorder, which will give clues as to what happened.

I'd like to give some two-word commonsense solutions to situations in our village that I see as increasingly unreasonable.
First, to the mother of the Wooten boys: step back. The many incidents involving your boys cannot be excused on the basis of harassment, race or anything else. It is clear that your boys are behaving badly. Continually defending them for actions that are unreasonable does not allow them to become men. To your boys: grow up. Schooling will give you skills for future employment and a life of promise. Thug life is a dead end. You are young and have your lives ahead of you. Please make good choices.
To the village manager: clean house. The Community Relations Department is ineffective and should be eliminated. The lack of progress in the Wooten situation is only the latest example of a lack of ability to foster any kind of community relationship building. Block clubs or neighborhood watch programs will save money and bring the neighbors together to solve their own issues.
Eliminate the Department of Building and Property Standards, as well. They have done virtually nothing to address the two-year vacancy of the house next door to mine. The neighbors see no bang for their tax bucks and are nearing revolt, and I suspect the same is true for many others. To the Parking Department: clarify signage. Did you visit Lot 13, behind U.S. Bank on Lake Street when you took your tour several weeks ago? Nowhere does it say that only permit parking is allowed on Sundays

belmont stakes 2009 date

It’s only been a few days but there has already been a big shift in the horse betting odds in the 2009 Belmont Stakes.

Some people apparently think this is the year of the underdog in the 2009 Belmont Stakes as the favorites are getting better odds while the betting underdogs are seeing their numbers go down.

With two dominant horses likely headlining this race you would expect the favorites to get most of the action but the opposite has been true early.

TheOnlinewire.com teamed up with our preferred online racebooks, Bodog Racebook and SBG Global Racebook to bring our readers the latest news and the best odds to bet on each of the three legs of the Triple Crown 2009.

Race favorites Mine That Bird (opened at 4/5 on the 2009 Belmont Stakes odds) and Rachel Alexandra (opened at 5/2 on the 2009 Belmont Stakes odds) have dropped down to 5/4 and 11/4 respectively with Dunkirk at 4/1 and Charitable Man at 9/2 the only race favorites holding strong on their opening value.

The Kentucky Derby winner and the Preakness Stakes winner against each other in the last leg of the Triple Crown makes for a great race but it should be noted that many of the horses listed currently are not 100% confirmed to take part in the June 6th race.

With the help of stager-in-training Rukiya, Matthew must come up with some kid-friendly and creative ideas to achieve an impressive transformation that will not break the bank, but will help sell the house.Five tips for staging a nursery on a budget include: 1 - Use removable wall stickers to create a dramatic motif on a budget. 2 - Pick gender neutral colors for the walls like sage green.3 - Buy or rent convertible furniture (i.e. a crib that turns into a twin bed) which can bridge the age gap.4 - Opt for simple over cute.5 - Keep the room clutter free by storing books and toys in inexpensive baskets or boxes.

shawn johnson

Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson danced away with the shiny trophy on ABC's Dancing With the Stars last night, while on Fox's American Idol, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen gave it one last shot before tonight's winner is announced.
Johnson defeated the handsome Gilles Marini, of Sex and the City, and Bachelor reject Melissa Rycroft.
Johnson's victory was somewhat surprising as Marini was the point leader for most of the competition this season, but the 18-year-old Johnson managed to wow America in the last three weeks by upping her performances and continuing with her flawless technique.
Earlier last night on American Idol, "we've got ourselves a real live dual competition going on here, and I love it, right?" said Randy in his inimitable Jackson-ese.
The choice was clear: West Coast Stage Door Johnny (Lambert), with his vampire stare, long black coat, and over-the-top theatrics, or Arkansas Slim in blue jeans (Allen), as unassuming as the Ozark day is long, but with pipes and doe eyes that can also mesmerize an adoring public.
